it is freaking cold

So, there’s this medieval song called “Sumer is icumen in,” which is the oldest existing example of a round (think “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”).  Listen to it here.  It’s kind of meh; any awesomeness it has comes from its historical value, the fact that one of the lyrics talks about a stag farting, and its use at the end of the 1973 British cult horror film The Wicker Man while the protagonist is burned alive (that link is tamer than you may imagine but still possibly not work-safe).

I mention it mostly because Ezra Pound wrote a parody that is pretty funny.  Pound was a fascist dick, but in this case he speaks the truth.

Ancient Music
Winter is icumen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm,
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.
Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damm you; Sing: Goddamm.
Goddamm, Goddamm, ’tis why I am, Goddamm,
So ‘gainst the winter’s balm.
Sing goddamm, damm, sing goddamm,
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.

The end of the Wicker Man totally creeps me out! I was just thinking about it recently. Pretty scary, methinks.

Yeah, it’s pretty fucked up (although I haven’t seen the whole movie. Perhaps a showing is in order???)

I loved “The Wicker Man”! Nobody does villains like Christopher Lee anymore.

I can’t get over how young he looks. He wasn’t always 14,000 years old?!?
