four-thirty-three

four-thirty-three went live a couple of days ago.

An explanation: I’ve been sick of the bone for a while.  It’s partly for aesthetic reasons; I’ve been blogging there since 2002, last did some tinkering with the design in late 2003 and early 2004… and I don’t really care for the site’s appearance anymore.  Because I started my blog prior to Blogger’s big rebuild in 2004 or so, switching to a new template would have been a kerfuffle.

Mostly, though, it’s just that the site doesn’t feel like home anymore.  My authorial voice has changed a tiny bit, and the topics I’m interested in writing about have changed dramatically.  There was a cool little readership base at the old site for a while, but as my interest in blogging declined so did that portion of the audience who didn’t know me personally.  It felt like posts there carried all of the baggage in the archives.  I’m an entirely different person now than I was when I began the project… they say that every seven years all of the cells in your body have been replaced (or maybe it’s atoms, I’ve heard it both ways).  That may be (or rather, probably is) bullshit on a scientific level but it’s a powerful metaphor. Continuing to post at the old site feels about as natural and appropriate as driving across the country to Fort Lauderdale, breaking into my old house and sleeping there.

So, there you have it.  Crazy mad props to kaiserin, who is graciously hosting four-thirty-three on her server space.  I’m committing to updating at least every couple of days, even if the content is a bit spare during busy times.  I’ll have mp3s posted occasionally, should that be something you’re into.  Those of you with some Wordpress knowledge will probably be asked for site maintenence tips over the next few months.
