movie posters from poland

Maoist propaganda posters are OK, and Soviet Constructivist posters are pretty damn rad (and the continuing influence of these two styles of art was apparent pretty recently).  But image for image, nothing surpasses the unsettling and sublimely beautiful aesthetics of Polish movie posters.

You’ll be looking at these for a little while, should you choose to start clicking links. It will be so very worth it.

Audience participation time! Pick one or two posters you like and let me know what they are (either here or email/facebook), and I’ll do a post later this week with people’s favorites.

If you had posted those links before Christmas my credit card would be completely maxed out right now. These are awesome !!! I love and would cheerfully purchase for Will’s birthday any of the Star Wars posters. I also like the West Side Story poster. I also like the Support Your Local Sheriff poster, it’s one of our favorite cable movies. Hands down the one I like the best, the one that is the most disturbing, the one I would not dare to hang in my house lest my friends and family stage an intervention and send me to therapy. Is the one of the mans pelvis on fire. At lease I hope it’s a man.

This is so weird. When I was packing my apartment, I found two Polish movie posters that I bought about three years ago and the Rose Bowl Swapmeet. I was totally obsessed with the minimalist silhouettes. They reminded me of art by this guy.

[...] These images were found via the Library of Congress, Google Images, and rainfall.com (which has some of these posters for sale).  I quite like the aesthetics of the posters: stripped-down, industrial and utilitarian. (Related: movie posters from poland) [...]
